End of Google? Will Chat GPT replace Google? Know here

Three weeks ago, Open AI, an artificial intelligence lab, unveiled ChatGPT, an experimental chatbot. It’s far from perfect, but just looking at its features was enough to alert Google to how AI could turn businesses upside down. Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet, Google’s parent company, has now directed several groups to focus on addressing the threat, Business Insider reports.

ChatGPT is a chatbot that can respond to user queries with information summarized in short, simple sentences. The bot can also respond to questions such as vacation plans, gift ideas, and business strategies in a short and concise manner. By comparison, Google, the number one search engine on the planet, provides users with many Internet links that they must surf to get the information they want.

The main reason Google does this is because it gives the company a chance to display ad links, which translates into revenue for the company. According to an Insider report, Google’s advertising business generated $208 billion in revenue in 2021 alone, accounting for 81% of Google’s revenue.

Chatbot threat:
The ready-to-use information provided by chatbots poses a serious threat to Google’s business. Over the past few weeks, users have asked ChatGPT to write college essays, provide coding advice, and even act as a therapist. The popularity of the chatbot was such that more than 1 million people tested the chatbot within 5 days of its launch. It is now to be seen if it has the potential to overtake and replace Google.

The news about Google is even worse because ChatGPT is just one of many chatbots that are challenging how people access information on the internet, putting an end to Google’s monopoly as a gateway to information.

In a series of meetings on Google’s AI strategy, Pichai directed several groups, primarily teams working in Research and Trust & Safety, to focus their efforts on developing and launching new AI prototypes and products. It also includes a competitor to Open AI’s DALL-E, an AI capable of generating art based on commands used by millions of people around the world.
