However, this rule does not apply to UAE resident cardholders.

For example, travelers can no longer enter a single name like ‘Arun’ in the ‘First Name’ or ‘Last Name’ columns of their passport. will be considered invalid.

However, names such as ‘Arun Kumar’ are acceptable. You can enter ‘Arun Kumar’ as a first or last name, or ‘Arun’ as a first name and ‘Kumar’ as a last name. These formats are acceptable.

According to a Khaleej Times report, several Indian citizens with only one name on their passports have already been banned from leaving the country.

However, passengers whose first and last names are written in either the first or second name fields of the passport will be considered an entry error and will be allowed to enter the country.

Passengers who have a single name in their passport but whose father’s name or surname are mentioned on the second page of their visa are also accepted.

Who will be affected by the UAE’s new passport regulations for travelers?
This rule only applies to those holding visitor visas, visas on arrival, employment visas and temporary visas.

Indian citizens holding a UAE residence card are exempt from this rule.

How have airlines responded to the UAE’s new passport rules?

What the International Civil Aviation Organization has to say about passport names

To enforce the new rules, the UAE government has relied on the practice of using names cited in paragraph 3.4 of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

According to ICAO, “The holder’s name is usually represented in two parts. primary and secondary identifiers. The issuing country or organization must establish which part of the name is the primary identifier. This can be a surname, maiden or married surname, real name, surname, and in some cases, the full name of the owner whose name cannot be divided into two parts. This should be entered in the VIZ’s Primary Identifier field. Capitalization is recommended except for prefixes. “von”, “Mc”, or “de la”, in which case a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters are appropriate. ”

ICAO recommends capitalization throughout.

Also, if a single field is used for the name, the secondary identifier must be separated from the primary identifier by a single comma (,). Commas are not required when using multiple fields.
