Jammu Kashmir ready for G20, first International event after Article 370 abrogation

It is the day that Jammu and Kashmir has been waiting for. As on 22 May, which is today, the meeting between G20 countries will take place in the capital Srinagar for three days till Wednesday. Before the meeting, Jammu and Kashmir has undergone tight security updates specifically around the the Sheri Kashmir International Convention Centre where the event will take place. This is going to be the first major International event that has happened in jammu and Kashmir. After the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.

The Sheri Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) is located near Dal Lake which gives it a spectacular view. This event is a big deal for India as more than 180 degregates, out of which around 60 will be from the G20 countries are scheduled to pay a visit to the event. The G20 consists of nineteen countries and the European Union. This meeting is hosted by different leaders each time. And this time India is hosting the event under the leadership of PM Modi. PM Modi recently said that he is honoured to hosted.

Goal of the G20 meeting in India

Union tourism secretary Arvind Singh said that the purpose behind organising event in Srinagar is to highlight the tourism potential and cultural richness of the region. As per IAS officer, most important thing in meeting is Goa roadmap for tourism as well as G20 ministerial declaration. All the G20 tourism ministers will meet again in Goa in June for a final meeting. Singh also said that “this meeting assumes significance because draft which will be adopted by ministers will be finalised in Srinagar”.

India encouraging participants

When compared to the last two G20 meetings this time there will be the most number of participations. And India is encouraging attendes to participate in the event hosted by India. The active participation by the working members has encouraged India to make full proof arrangements for the meeting. Adequate arrangements have already been done in Jammu and Kashmir. All the security arrangements have been made.
