Elon musk neuralink planned to work on spinal cord implant, submitted paperwork to the FDA

Neuralink Corp., a company owned by Elon Musk, announced plans to use implants in the brain to control computers with nerve impulses to restore movement and communication in people with disabilities at a conference in Fremont, California, on Wednesday.

“We were extremely careful and submitted most of the paperwork to the FDA to make sure the chip was working properly before inserting the device into humans, and we should be able to upload Neuralink to humans,” Musk said in a statement.

How does it work?
Neuralink is a small device in which wires are covered with electrodes. Along with improving implants, the company has been developing surgical robots that cut open part of a patient’s skull and insert a chip into the patient’s brain. Musk said in an announcement on Wednesday that Neuralink is working with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to gain approval for human trials.

In addition to brain-computer interfaces, Musk also unveiled two important products. Neuralink is also researching spinal cord transplants that can help paralyzed people regain movement, and eye transplants that can restore sight to the blind.

What does Musk believe in?
Musk concedes that humans can compete with artificial intelligence (AI) only through augmentation, which transforms us into organic computers. Brain-to-computer interfaces (BCIs), of which Neuralink is best known, can also help people with ALS or stroke communicate using their minds.

On Wednesday, the company conducted a demonstration using monkeys with implants that interact with computers. The implant operator’s nerve spikes are read by Neuralink’s gadget and converted into data that the computer can understand.
