CHENNAI, INDIA – Centered on the right to education, Dhanush starrer “Vaathi” received negative reviews from critics. Released on September 3, 2021, the film was expected to be a blockbuster, but failed to live up to audience expectations.

According to Indian Express’s review, “Vaathi” falls short in addressing important social issues. Featuring Dhanush as a schoolteacher fighting for the education of underprivileged children, this film fails to deliver on its promise of an impactful narrative. The film’s attempts to focus on the struggles of children unable to attend school due to economic constraints ultimately fail.

The film’s storyline, which relies heavily on exaggerated action sequences, leaves little room for the emotional impact its subject matter demands. The performances of the supporting cast also don’t add depth to the story, and many of the characters seem one-dimensional and underdeveloped.

Despite Dhanush’s star power, “Vaathi” ultimately fails to resonate with the audience. The film’s lackluster execution on an important issue is a missed opportunity to draw attention to the vital issue of the right to education.
