Mammootty’s critically acclaimed film, Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, is gearing up for OTT release soon. Produced by Megastar under his banner Mammootty Kampany, the OTT rights to the film were reportedly acquired by Disney+ Hotstar, which also bought the rights to his two previous super hits, including Bheeshma Parvam and Rorschach.
Directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery, Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam hit theaters in January after an enthusiastic reception at its world premiere at the Kerala International Film Festival in December 2022.
A film where Mammootty essays the role of a theater artist named James who suddenly wakes up after a nap and starts behaving like a Tamil named Sundaram, who is said to be missing and presumed dead. His personality confuses the Malayalis who accompanied him and Sundaram’s family in the village. Written by S Hareesh, the film is set extensively in Tamil Nadu and was praised for the megastar’s “effortless” performance and cinematographer Theni Easwar’s visuals.

The OTT launch will also benefit many viewers who watched the film in theaters in Kerala but without subtitles. The film has dialogues in Tamil and Malayalam, and as Mammootty puts it, “To a Malayalam audience it will look like a Tamil film and vice versa.” Subtitles will help to better understand the film to audiences who are not familiar with other languages.
Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam also has Ramya Pandian, Ashokan, Ashwath Ashokkumar, Rajesh Sharma, Vipin Atley, Poo Ramu and Thennavan as part of the cast. The streaming platform that will release Unni Mukundan’s Malikappuram on February 15th is expected to drop Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam either in the last week of February or the first week of March.
The film also marked Mammootty Kampany’s debut production venture, which later financed Rorschach as well as superstar’s next films such as Jeo Baby’s Kaathal – The Core and Roby Varghese Raj’s Kannur Squad.
Meanwhile, Mammootty’s latest film, Christopher, which hit theaters last week, will start streaming on Amazon Prime Video starting in March 2023.
