Made in India iPhone exported from Europe to Middle East, manufacturing ramps up, China in shock

New Delhi: iPhone exports from India have crossed $1 billion in the five months since April. This shows that India is slowly becoming a hub for electronics manufacturing. iPhones made in India are mainly shipped to Europe and the Middle East, people familiar with the matter said. This figure could reach $2.5 billion in the 12 months to March 2023. This is double the $1.3 billion iPhones India exported by March 2022.

India is becoming the factory of the world

However, India accounts for only a small fraction of the total production of iPhones. While 230 million iPhones are manufactured in China, only 3 million iPhones are currently manufactured in India. 98 percent of iPhones are made in China. Yet rising iPhone exports bode well for Prime Minister Modi’s plan to replace India with China as the world’s factory. Apple has long made most of its iPhones in China. Apple is now looking to replace China due to China’s tension with the US and the strict corona restrictions implemented in the country.

India is becoming an alternative to China
“Apple’s manufacturing scale and strong export growth suggest that India is gradually gaining a central place in the company’s China plus one strategy,” said Navkeer Singh, analyst at tech researcher IDC. For India, this is a big sign of the success of the economic stimulus plan, he added.
