IPL 2023: Rishabh Pant to return to IPL, what Delhi Capitals coach Ricky Ponting said?

New Delhi: Even though Rishabh Pant is not fit to play in the tournament, Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting has said that he would like to have the left-handed wicketkeeper-batsman with him in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL). On December 30, Pant (25) had a narrow escape when his car crashed into a road divider on the Delhi-Dehradun highway and caught fire. A tragic car accident took place between Mangalore and Narsan in Uttarakhand’s Haridwar district.

Pant was first taken to Saksam Hospital Multispeciality and Trauma Center before being admitted to Max Hospital in Dehradun for treatment of multiple injuries. On January 4, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that Pant would be flown to Mumbai by air ambulance for surgery and further treatment. IPL captain Pant is currently on a long road to recovery at Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital under the direct supervision of Dr Dinsho Pardiwala, Head of Center for Sports Medicine, Director of Arthroscopy and Shoulder Services.

Rishabh Pant will remain in the dugout

“You can’t replace those players,” he said. These players are not built that way. We need to see an option to replace him in the team as a wicket-keeper batsman. He said, ‘I want him sitting next to me in the dugout every game. Even if he is not really physically fit to play, we want him to be with us. He is a great leader of the team and as captain he has that attitude, smile and laugh which is what we all love about him.

“If he can really travel and walk around the team, I want him in the dugout with me every day of the week,” Ponting said on the ICC Review Show. I assure you, we will meet in Delhi by mid-March and move forward. If he can stay in our camp, I will keep him with me.

Pant’s return to cricket after a full recovery from multiple injuries remains unclear as he is set to miss India’s four Tests against Australia at home for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy starting February 9 in Nagpur. Ponting believes that Ball’s Test batting prowess will be a huge loss not only for India but also for the fans of the game and hopes to repeat his batting prowess in Australia in an incredible 2-1 series win in 2021. Pant is currently ranked seventh in the men’s Test batting rankings.

Pant is a powerful batsman in all three formats

“When he first started, we all probably thought he would be a better T20 and ODI batsman than a Test batsman, but it actually works the other way around,” he said. His Test cricket was excellent. Even the upcoming four-Test series against Australia. We know how he played against the Kangaroos last time in Australia. He was waiting for that serial.

Australia’s two-time ODI World Cup-winning captain Ponting has revealed that he has been in touch with the ball for the past few days. ‘I’m absolutely in love with him and I’ve been talking to him on the phone for the last few days. That time was really scary for everyone.
