Ather Energy inaugurated its second manufacturing plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. Spread over 300,000 square feet, the facility will increase the company’s production capacity to 420,000 units per annum. Here the company will add its flagship scooters – Ather 450X and Ather 450X Plus.
Commenting on the launch of the new plant, Ather Energy Co-Founder and CTO Swapnil Jain said, “Rapid scale ups are vulnerable to quality issues and our top priority is to provide safe and reliable products to our customers, ensuring that we create A vision plant. With intensive investment and innovation in processes and machines, this plant will help us further strengthen our leadership in providing quality vehicles.
Spread over an area of 300,000 square feet, Aether’s new manufacturing facility has two units – one for battery manufacturing and the other for vehicle assembly. There will be five assembly lines for battery unit and two assembly lines for vehicle assembly. The entire facility will have an installed capacity of 420,000 units to cater to the growing demand for scooters.
Speaking about the new facility, Swapnil said, “With our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at Hosur, Athar has set new benchmarks in quality through manufacturing innovation in the EV industry. The new facility is enabled with Industry 4.0, bringing together data from testing, simulation, process (Industry 4.0) and field (Connected Vehicles) to deliver world-class electric scooters. With a strong focus on manufacturing excellence, we improved our takt time by 10x and work content by 4x. As a sign of our commitment to vehicle safety, our scooters have leading testing standards on both the vehicle and software side. Currently each scooter goes through more than 1500 rigorous tests to ensure its reliability and safety.
