Tata Motors has planned a number of new models (including EV and CNG versions) for the Indian market. The company will invest heavily in the local manufacturing of lithium-ion batteries and BEV technology. In addition to electromobility solutions, the domestic automaker will bring CNG versions of popular models including Altoz, Punch and Nexon. Tata Altoz CNG and Nexon CNG have already been tested with their exhaust equipment. However, the release date of the model has not yet been revealed by the automaker.
Upon launch, the Tata Altoz CNG will compete with the upcoming Maruti Baleno CNG and Toytoa Glanza CNG. The hatchback features a 1.2L turbo petrol engine with a CNG kit. While the regular petrol unit makes a peak output of 110bhp and 140Nm of torque, the Altoz CNG is slightly less powerful and has higher torque.
The Tata Nexon CNG directly uses the Maruti Brezza CNG, which is scheduled for release in 2023. This model is powered by a 1.2 Revotron turbo petrol motor coupled with a factory fitted CNG kit. In the standard model, the turbo petrol unit provides power equivalent to 120bhp and 170Nm of torque. The Nexon CNG will likely be 15bhp less powerful than a regular gasoline motor. It is fitted with a six-speed manual transmission.
Both Tata Altoz CNG and Nexon CNG are more fuel efficient than standard gasoline products. Official details of the upcoming CNG model haven’t been released yet, but it’s likely based on the mid-spec and top trim. Speaking of pricing, CNG variants from Altoz and Nexon are expected to cost around 1 million rupees more than their standard counterparts. According to reports, automakers are also considering Tata Punch CNG and electric iterations.
More details about the upcoming Tata CNG car will be revealed in the near future. Stay tuned for IndiaCarNews.
