On the eve of World EV Day, Tata Motors announced that it will introduce up to 10 electric vehicles in the near future to strengthen its position in the electric vehicle sector. The domestic automobile major is the largest electric vehicle sales agency in Korea, where Nexon EV is ranked first, and more pollution-free models will surely come out as the momentum continues.
The company will bring the Tiago EV as soon as its launch plans are already confirmed. According to a recent Internet report, Tata is working on an electrified version of the Harrier as it enters alpha testing.
The release date of the electric SUV based on the Tata Harrier has not been officially set, but it is said to be released around mid-next year. The report further noted that the Punch-based electric micro SUV is in beta testing phase ahead of its market debut in 2023. Tata has had a busy year with the Curvv and Avinya EV concepts unveiled.
The Tata Nexon EV’s portfolio has expanded to include the Nexon EV Max with a larger battery pack and longer range. It is likely that the Tata Punch EV will be positioned higher than the upcoming Tiago EV. Tata is currently selling Nexon EV and Tigor EV, and Tigor EV is also receiving good reviews from customers because of its sales performance.
The Harrier-based electric SUV and Punch EV will likely sit in modified versions of their respective ICE platforms. The Tiago EV and Punch EV may have a few things in common with the Tigor EV’s 26kWh battery pack or the larger lithium-ion battery found on the Nexon EV. Tata is also preparing to launch an all-electric vehicle based on a dedicated skateboard architecture over the next few years.
They will compete with Mahindra’s XUV.e and BE electric vehicle families, while Maruti Suzuki and Toyota will show off their respective electric SUVs by mid-year.
