Polestar 3 electric SUV unveiled! Comes with a range of 620km, know price and features

Polestar has unveiled its second series production model, the Polestar 3 electric SUV. The EV is powered by dual electric motors that produce up to 517 hp and 910 Nm. Polestar claims that widespread use of sustainable materials has made the 3 SUV “more appropriate and responsible”.

Polestar 3: Platform and Powertrain

Based on Volvo’s new SPA2 platform, the Polestar 3 will be the twin of the upcoming Volvo EX90 SUV, using almost the same foundations and systems. Polestar 1 and 2 were based on Volvo’s concepts, while 3 was designed and conceptualized by Polestar from the ground up.

The Polestar 3 will be available with a dual-motor powertrain and will produce 489 hp and 840 Nm of combined output in its standard form. The automaker claims that the EV SUV has a rear-biased four-wheel drive system where more power is transmitted to the rear wheels. It can sprint from 0-100kph in 5.0 seconds and achieves a claimed top speed of 210kph.

With the performance pack, output increases to 517 hp and 910 Nm, and 0-100 kph time is reduced to 4.7 seconds (charged). With a battery capacity of 111 kWh, the Polestar 3 boasts a WLTP charge range of up to 620 km and a maximum charging rate of 250 kW.

To ensure that a large SUV can deliver what Polestar’s chief chassis engineer Joakim Rydholm called “the performance and precision that defines every Polestar car,” the 3 features a dual-chamber adaptive air suspension that can be adjusted electronically every two milliseconds. There is also a 400mm Brembo four-piston brake at the front.

3 also features a torque vectoring dual clutch on the rear axle, so the rear motor can be automatically disconnected. This allows the car to run as a front motor only under certain circumstances to save energy. There is also an adjustable one-pedal drive option.

Polestar 3: Features

Polestar 3 includes many new infotainment and safety technologies. It uses a new Nvidia Drive core computer that acts as an ‘AI brain’ to process data from a raft of sensors mounted on the car. There are 5 radar modules, 5 external cameras and 12 external ultrasonic sensors using Volvo’s latest safety software.

A pilot pack with optional Lidar will be available next year and will add additional Nvidia controls, three cameras and four ultrasonic sensors. In addition, enhanced 3D scanning around the vehicle can provide more accurate real-time data.

Polestar claims that Volvo’s internal radar technology can detect sub-millimeter movement indoors and warn you not to leave children or pets indoors. There are also two closed-loop driver monitoring cameras that can provide audio alerts or automatically stop the car if the driver detects distraction or drowsiness.

The 3 also runs Polestar’s Android-based OS development and has a 14.5-inch touchscreen system that allows over-the-air updates.

Polestar 3: Exterior Design

The front of this electric SUV features the trademark LED daytime running lights of Volvo and Polestar. On the sides, 21-inch alloy wheels (22-inch optional), retractable door handles and a sloping roofline with a panoramic sunroof are standard as standard. At the rear of the Polestar 3 are C-shaped taillamps and LED light bars. The EV SUV is expected to come with a price of Rs. 69 lakhs, ($83,900).
