Maruti Suzuki is preparing to add a new model to its Indian product portfolio in early 2023. The automaker has confirmed that it will showcase three new SUVs at the Delhi Auto Expo in January. The new Maruti Coupe SUV (codename – YTB) will be one of the show stoppers at the event. While the official name and details of the new Maruti SUV have not yet been revealed, it is rumored to be named the Maruti Baleno Cross. Here are the 5 key details we know so far about the new Maruti compact SUV coming soon.
Booster jet engine
The automaker’s Boosterjet turbo petrol engine makes a comeback in the new Maruti compact SUV. This motor was first introduced in the top-of-the-line Baleno RS, which was discontinued due to the implementation of BS6 emission standards. Now, the company will bring it back as a BS6-compatible Avatar, making 102bhp of power and 150Nm of torque. The motor can be boosted with mild hybrid technology. The Coupe SUV can also be offered with a naturally aspirated petrol engine and can be a 1.2L Dualjet or 1.5L Dualjet with a mild hybrid technology unit. Both manual and automatic gearboxes will be offered.
The Maruti Baleno Cross will convey the brand’s evolved SUV design language, as seen on the Grand Vitara. It gets a more angular stance with a split headlamp setup and slim LED DRL and signature ‘three block’ moniker atop the bonnet. Some of its design bits will be borrowed from the Baleno hatchback and Futuro e-Concept that broke the cover at the last edition of the Delhi Auto Expo. The new Maruti compact SUV comes with pronounced wheel arches, a raised waistline, alloy wheels, a coupe-like roofline and a curved rear glass area. Maruti Suzuki will most likely pack its new coupe SUV as a luxury offering. It could be offered with a new 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, voice commands and Suzuki Connect. This list will likely include a multifunction steering wheel, digital console, auto AC unit, rear AC vents, multiple airbags, and more.
An official launch date for the new Maruti YTB SUV has not yet been announced. However, according to reports, a production-ready version of the vehicle will be on sale by April 2023.
Expected price, competition
The new Maruti Baleno Cross SUV is expected to cost around Rs 8 lakh for the base model and up to Rs 13 lakh for the top trim. When launched in this price range, it will compete with Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger.
