IT Rules: The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEIT) will now conduct compliance audits of social media companies every three months. Under the current system, social media platforms are required to disclose compliance with the IT Rules, 2021 every month, where they report the action taken by them in response to various complaints.
According to PTI-language news, the ministry has now set up a mechanism to conduct compliance audit of social media intermediaries under IT rules every three months. In the audit, the ministry will see whether the social media companies are properly reporting the complaints received by them and whether their actions are in accordance with the prescribed norms.
The government has proposed to set up an appellate committee for social media forums, which would be able to overturn decisions taken by social media companies with regard to any complaint. (input language)
