India has the potential to become the biggest EV manufacturing hub in the world says Gadkari

India: Union road transport minister Nitin Gadkari spoke at an event which was organised by confederation of Indian industry in New Delhi and assured that India can become the No.1 EV manufacturer in the world. This statement of his comes after a huge amount of Lithium-ion reserve was discovered in Jammu and Kashmir.

He said that there is great potential for growth in EV manufacturing sector in Jammu and Kashmir. Today, India imports Lithium from outsiders and by reducing the amount, India has the potential to become the strongest player in the EV game.

“Every year, we import 1,200 tonnes of lithium. Now, in Jammu and Kashmir, we got lithium. (If) we can use this lithium ion, we will be the number one automobile manufacturing country in the world,” he was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

In a recent speech, Nitin Gadkari revealed that India has over taken Japan as the third largest automobile market while it will soon be at the first place by replacing China and America. For this to happen, we need to have enough lithium as it is a main component and discovery of around 5.9 million tonne of lithium has brought hope to India.

He states that the Indian automobile industry is worth around $7.5 lakh crore. Meanwhile, he also said that the officials confirmed the quality of lithium found in Jammu and Kashmir to be of high grade. Indian has a long way to go before it becomes the no. 1 as Chinese and American markets are highly competitive.
