Honda Cars India is preparing to revive its business and upgrade its sales network with a range of new SUVs. The automaker has confirmed that the new SUV will hit the road sometime next year. Takuya Tsumura, president and CEO of Honda Cars India, told an online media publication that the company has had a tough time over the past three years due to the global transition to electric mobility and restructuring of facilities and operations.
Now the Japanese automaker is ready to revive the market by introducing a new model in the high-selling SUV segment. Tsumura further confirmed that Honda’s new SUV model will be launched next year, which will help boost sales. Currently, the company’s primary focus is to increase the utilization of the production capacity of its Rajasthan infrastructure. The upcoming new Honda SUV has completed the development phase and is expected to go into mass production soon. Before that, the company will make some final adjustments.
The automaker has not yet revealed the name and details of the new Honda SUV to be launched, but it is likely to be a mid-size or under 4 meter SUV. If the report is to be believed, the new Honda subcompact SUV will take design inspiration from the cover-breaking Honda RS SUV concept at GIIAS in 2022. It will underpin Amaze’s platform and may come with a 1.5L i-VTEC petrol (121PS/145Nm) engine. Transmission choices may include six-speed manual and CVT automatic units.
In the midsize SUV space, Honda will be targeting cars like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. This model can share a powertrain with the City Hybrid, which comes with a 1.5L, four-cylinder Atkinson Cycel with two electric motors. The new Honda SUV is about 4.3 meters long.
