CNG variant of Tata Altroz might launch soon, seen during testing

People troubled by the skyrocketing petrol and diesel prices are opting for CNG. Although its prices have increased continuously in the past like petrol and diesel, but it is still an affordable option.

In addition, their mileage is higher than those that run on petrol or diesel.
Tata may soon bring a CNG variant of its hatchback car Altroz, it has recently been spotted during testing.

Tata Motors currently offers the option of CNG with its Tiago and Tigor. These were launched earlier this year.

According to the sales figures in the country, the demand for CNG is also being seen in the SUV and premium segment.
Due to this many companies are moving towards this option in their SUVs as well. Tata is looking to introduce a CNG option in the Altroz as well as the Nexon.

Which engine option will the Altroz come with CNG kit?

Media reports suggest that the same CNG kit is likely to be used in Tata Altroz and Nexon.

Both the cars get the option of the same 1.2 liter turbo petrol and 1.5 liter turbo diesel engine. However, both have different power and torque outputs.
The Altroz is a premium hatchback-class car with a CNG option in the 1.2-litre petrol engine.

How will the CNG variant of Altroz be capable of?

The power output of the Altroz is likely to drop by around 10 to 15bhp when running on CNG.

At present, this 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine generates 85bhp power and 113Nm torque.

Transmission options include afive-speed manual and a six-speed DCA transmission.
According to media reports, only CNG variants will be offered with the manual transmission option in the Altroz.

Seeing the increasing demand for CNG, Maruti Suzuki has started providing the option of factory fitted CNG in almost all its cars.

Recently the company has also launched its Swift with this option. The company claims that it has been given the most powerful engine in the segment, due to which it is capable of covering a distance of 30.90 km in one kg of CNG.
Its price has been kept at Rs 7.77 lakh.
