5 people dead in fire that broke out in Durga Puja pandal in Uttar Pradesh


Five people have so far been dead in the Pandal fire that broke out in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday. The incident took place in Durga Puja Pandal in the village of Aurai in the Bhadohi district, officials said. About 150 people were said to have attended the event when a fire broke out during the Aarti session to commemorate the Navratri festival or the seventh day of Saptami.

Bhadohi DM Gaurang Rathi told the Hindustan Times on Monday that the tragedy had killed three boys (ages 12, 10 and 8) and two women (ages 45 and 48). About 55 people were initially admitted to the hospital after the accident, of which 22 were reported to have suffered serious injuries and serious burns.

“The death toll from the Bhadohi Durga Puja Pandal fire has risen to five. Three children and two women were killed. “At least 64 people were injured,” he said.

Naveen Kumar, 10, son of Umesh Kumar from the village of Baari, died Monday morning while receiving treatment in Varanasi. Jaya Devi, 47, was reportedly killed by doctors on Sunday night. Ankush Soni, 12, died Sunday night at Bhadohi Hospital.

Harshvardhan, 8, and Aarati Devi, 48, also died.

Some have been transferred to the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) Trauma Center in Varanasi. Varanasi Police Commissioner A Satish Ganesh said, “After receiving information that the victims were being transported to the BHU Trauma Center, we created the Green Corridor to make transporting them hassle-free.”

Police said a short circuit was the main cause of the fire, but was awaiting confirmation from the technical team investigating the incident.
