At least nine people were killed and 15 others injured in a road accident near Kalambella in Tumakuru on Thursday morning. Police sources gave this information. He said that the accident took place due to a collision between a passenger vehicle and a lorry at 4.30 am. Terming this road accident as heart-wrenching, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and also announced compensation.
There were 24 passengers on the cruise
News agency PTI quoted sources as saying that those killed in the accident were daily wage laborers from different parts of Raichur district and were on their way to Bengaluru. He said that the injured have been taken to the hospital for treatment. Sources said that there were about 24 passengers in the cruiser vehicle and more people were seated in it. He said that children were also among the dead.
Injured admitted to hospital
Tumakuru Deputy Commissioner YS Patil said, they left the cruiser at 1 pm yesterday. This morning at around 4.30 am, when his vehicle was trying to overtake the lorry, the lorry hit the vehicle from behind due to which it overturned and hit the divider. He said, nine people died on the spot and the remaining 15 have been admitted to the district hospital for treatment. Two are in critical condition and have been sent to the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurological Sciences (NIMHANS) in Bengaluru.
President expressed condolences
President Draupadi Murmu also condoled the loss of lives in the accident and wished the injured a speedy recovery. Rashtrapati Bhavan quoted Murmu as saying, “The death of people including children and women in a road accident in Tumakuru, Karnataka is very unfortunate. My deepest sympathies to the families of the victims. She said, I wish the injured a speedy recovery. Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai also condoled those killed in the accident.
