Haryana Sports Minister denys sexual harassment allegations, says Attempt to spoil image

Haryana Sports Minister Sandeep Singh dismissed the sexual harassment allegations as “an attempt to ruin my image” but hoped for a thorough investigation into the matter. In an interview with news agency ANI, Singh said that pending his investigation report, he would hand over his responsibilities as Sports Minister to Prime Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

He said, “There are attempts to ruin my image. I hope there will be a thorough investigation into the spread of false information about me. Until the investigation report comes out, I pass the responsibilities of the Sports Department to the Chief Minister (Manohar Lal Khattar),” Sandeep Singh can be heard saying in the video.

Based on complaints from Haryana’s female junior track and field coach, Chandigarh Police booked Sandeep Singh for sexual harassment.

Sections 354 (Assault or criminal violence against a woman with intent to offend her modesty), 354A (Sexual harassment), 354B (Assault or use of criminal force against a woman with intent to undress), Section 342 (Wrongful confinement) and cases under section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) have been registered.
