Virat Kohli became the second cricketer, after Rohit Sharma, to complete 3500 runs in T20 International AFG Asia Cup

Dubai: Almost three years later, India’s star batsman Virat Kohli scored his 71st international and his maiden T20I century against Afghanistan in the Super Four match of the 2022 Asia Cup at the Dubai International Stadium on Thursday. Kohli’s last international century came in November 2019 against Bangladesh in the Dennight Test at the Eden Gardens, ending his century drought after 1020 days.
Captain Rohit Sharma was rested in this match which is why Virat Kohli shared a century partnership with KL Rahul for the opening wicket. He scored his first T20 century in 53 balls. Kohli became the second player after Rohit Sharma to reach the milestone in T20Is to reach 3500 runs. Now he has 3584 runs from 104 innings and Rohit Sharma has 3620 runs to his name.

Virat completed 100 sixes in his T20 career and became the 10th player to achieve this milestone. Batting first, his 122 off 61 balls helped India to a challenging 212/2, the highest ever in the Asia Cup 2022 tournament.

It is noteworthy that Martin Guptill holds the record for most sixes in T20 Internationals. He scored 172 sixes while Rohit Sharma hit 171 sixes. If Rohit had played, perhaps Guptill would have been left behind in terms of sixes.
