Sudhir Win Gold Medal: Indian para-powerlifter Sudhir won the country’s sixth gold on Thursday by lifting 212 kg at the Commonwealth Games 2022 (CWG 2022). With this Sudhir entered his name in the record books as he won India’s first Gold medal in Para-powerlifting in the history of Commonwealth Games 2022. He won the gold medal in his second attempt by lifting 212 kg with a record score of 134.5.

Sudhir won gold in men’s heavyweight event

India’s Sudhir created history by winning the gold medal with a record breaking performance in the men’s heavyweight final of the Para Powerlifting event. Sudhir is the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal in the Para Powerlifting event of the Commonwealth Games. He won the gold medal in his second attempt by lifting 212 kg with a record score of 134.5. Sudhir, however, failed to lift 217 kg in his last attempt. Nigeria’s Ikechukwu Kristian Ubichukwu took the silver with 133.6 points while Scotland’s Mickey Yule took the bronze with 130.9 points. Christian lifted 197 kg while Yule lifted 192 kg.

Sudhir also became the first Indian in the history of Commonwealth Games to win Para Powerlifting Gold. However, during this time he was facing a challenge from the Nigerian powerlifter, who pushed Sudhir to the second position with his second attempt. But Sudhir won in the end and confirmed his gold.
