New Delhi: Will Congress Interim President Sonia Gandhi pick the new president of the party? Will the Congress president be re-elected from the Gandhi family? Although the election process for the post of President is progressing in the Congress, questions are being raised about the entire election process after the new order of the party. According to media reports, the top Congress leadership has ordered all state units to pass the resolution before September 20. In this resolution, Interim President Sonia Gandhi will be asked to nominate all state unit heads and All India Congress Committee members. After this order, questions have again been raised regarding the internal democracy in the Congress.

So should the next President be made from the Gandhi family?

According to a report by NDTV, quoting ranks, no one can stop the state representatives from passing a resolution allowing incumbent Sonia Gandhi to choose the next Congress president. But this will not affect the Congress Central Election Authority. A leader related to the election process said, “We are not part of the process of passing this resolution. The Pradesh Congress Committee has been requested to pass the resolution before 20th of this month. The process of election notification will start from September 22. Nomination papers for the post of Speaker can be submitted between September 24 and 30, and the polls will be held on October 17.

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh on Wednesday said a broad consensus should be reached to elect a new president, days before the process for the post of party president begins. In any case, the importance of the Nehru-Gandhi family will remain in the organization’s affairs, he said. Sonia Gandhi will be the person everyone is looking forward to in this election, even if the president is chosen other than the Gandhi family, he said. Apart from this, Rahul Gandhi will continue to be the ideological center of the party.

Those contesting the election will get the delegate list

The list of electors (representatives) will be made available to the people who are willing to contest the elections, before the process of submission of nomination papers for the post of Congress President begins from September 24. Along with this, all the representatives are being issued an identity card with QR codes. Congress Central Election Authority (CEA) chief Madhusudan Mistry on Wednesday met state election officials at the party headquarters to discuss election preparations.

Sources said the election officials have been asked to ensure that the AICC elects delegates and elects new presidents of state units from September 20. Five MPs, including Shashi Tharoor and Manish Tiwari, raised concerns about the move. He had written to Election Authority chief Madhusudan Mistry demanding transparency and fairness in the proceedings.
