Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena alleges fraud in Jal Board

The ongoing confrontation between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena may increase further.

In fact, on Saturday, Saxena has ordered registration of an FIR against Delhi Jal Board (DJB) officials for ’embezzlement’ of Rs 20 crore. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia heads the Delhi Jal Board.

The Lieutenant Governor has asked the Chief Secretary to identify the accused officers and submit an action taken report within 15 days.

Delhi government welcomed the decision

Responding to the Lt Governor’s order, AAP MLA and Delhi Jal Board vice-chairman Saurabh Bhardwaj said that this is an ongoing issue since 2012 and he welcomes any kind of inquiry.

What are the allegations against the Jal Board officials?

Officials said that the Delhi Jal Board had collected Rs 20 crore as water bill. These were deposited in a private bank account for many years instead of being deposited in the account of the Jal Board.

The note issued by the Raj Bhavan said that in June 2012, the Jal Board had issued an order allowing Corporation Bank to collect water bills for three years.

The contract was extended again for three years

After the lapse of the first three years, the same bank was allowed to deposit bills in 2016, 2017 and 2019.

On the other hand the bank, in contravention of the rules, entrusted a private agency M/s Freshpay IT Solutions Pvt Ltd to a private agency, in contravention of the rules, to collect the cash and checks and deposit it in the account of the Jal Board, while in the meantime the irregularities were found. It was known.

Scam when Kejriwal was the head- official

Raj Niwas alleged that in 2019 when Arvind Kejriwal was the head of the Jal Board, irregularities and uncertainties had come to the fore while extending the contract of the bank. Despite being aware of this, the board had extended the contract of Corporation Bank and the private agency acting as the collection agent of the bank till 2020.

Officials said that instead of taking action against the bank, the service fee was increased by Re.

Lt Governor sought report in 15 days

An official said that the bill money collected from the people was deposited in the Federal Bank and instead of sending it to the Jal Board’s account from here, the money was sent to the account of a private company. Doing so is in clear violation of the agreement between Corporation Bank and Jal Board.

Now the Lieutenant Governor has asked the Chief Secretary to identify the responsible officers and fix their accountability and submit the report in 15 days.
