589 houses affected due to stormy rains in Bhiwandi, Thane

Maharashtra: Heavy rains and strong winds created destruction in areas of Padgha-Borivali rural stretch in Bhiwandi of Thane district. This unfortunate incident happened on Tuesday afternoon which resulted in the damaging of roofs of around more than 500 homes in the locality. Along with this normal function of villagers was disturbed as several trees got up rooted due to Storm like conditions in the area. Moreover, a marriage hall shed also collapsed at the strong windy rain lashed the building. All this happened around 3pm in the afternoon.

As per villagers the Rain increased rapidly and in 20 minutes the storm like situation had occurred. Villagers in the rural parts of Bhiwandi taluka, complained disturbance in their normal lives. When the rain occurred, Gujjar community marriage was being held in one of the marriage hall in Borivli village. During the marriage, the roof of that hall suddenly collapsed. There were many people in the hall and the roof’s collapsing resulted in many villagers getting injured.

Was anyone injured?

Those who were injured were immediately taken to on nearby clinic, who were later discharged. They were given first aid at the clinic before discharge. As per reports, the roofs of many homes were flying in the air, electric poles got uprooted. After receiving this information, Bhiwandi administration took immediate action and arranged ambulances as well as police to visit the site. However, it was later confirmed by the police that there were no casualties. Padgha police officials said they had received the news about the collapsing of the shed of the mall. They had rushed to the spot after learning about the incident.

Tahsildar Adhik Patil, of Bhiwandi , in a talk with HT said that, the number of houses that got affected due to the extreme weather conditions were around 589 houses. The rain affected areas were Padgha, Borivli-Rahur, Wafale, Dalepada, and Angaon. Around 25 houses and their shirts were heavily affected due to the storm. The families that nested in these houses have been sent to Urdu School in Borivli village for safety reasons. He said the final report of the survey will be submitted handed over to the Thane Collector.

IMD had served warning?

Before the strong rain hit the area the local Meteorological centre had alerted the people and had warned of heavy rain in some parts of Maharashtra. The announcement was made on Monday. Moreover, it has been said that rain + Thunder will be there for the next 5 days. However, Thane and Palghar districts were excluded from the prediction.
