PM Modi to inaugurate highway projects, that’ll not disturb wildlife, in Chhattisgarh

India: India is growing in each aspect which also including national highways. India has developed world class road network, over 50% more national highways built, expanded since 2014. Now Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be inaugurating the construction of three National Highway projects which will be located in Chhattisgarh. What is special is that it also includes a 2.8 km long tunnel with animal passes. This means that the National Highway will be nature friendly and will help promote animal safety.

PM Modi is all set to arrive Chhattisgarh on Friday. The three National Highway projects that he’ll be inaugurating are for the Chhattisgarh section of the 6-lane Greenfield Raipur – Visakhapatnam corridor. The National Highway will consist of 27 animal passes and 17 monkey canopies in the Udanti Wildlife Sanctuary area. The main aim is to keep the wildlife undisturbed while not making a compromise on the development. This is a great initiative by the government. There are several highways that follow this system in India.

As per an official statement, PM Modi wants to have highways so that there is minimal impact on the wild life. “It has been the vision of PM Modi to minimise the impact of highway development on wildlife,” the official statement read. Recently, PM Modi had laid the foundation stone of Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor. The inauguration was done in December 2021. This corridor will feature Asia’s largest wildlife elevated corridor spanning 12 km, facilitating unrestricted movement for wildlife.

There are many projects that are developed in India that aim to have a wildlife friendly development of highways. Some of the main national highways that follow this culture are Haridwar-Dehradun Section of NH-58 & 72 731 m which has a combined structure in Motichur Corridors. It also has 2-Elephant Underpasses at Lal Tappar & Teen Pani on NH-72 and NH-58. Another such project is MP/MH Border to Mansar Section of NH-7 which has 3 animal underpasses, structures, minor bridges, culverts. Raipur-Vishakhpatnam located in Orissa has 2 tunnels (6.29 km), 14 underpasses along with monkey ladder.
