Indian men’s team won gold for the second time in a row
The Indian men’s table tennis team won the gold medal in the Commonwealth Games 2022 on Tuesday. In the final match, India defeated Singapore 3-1.
In the decider, Harmeet Desai defeated Clarence Chew 11-8, 11-5, 11-6 to win the title.
With this win, the Indian men’s team has won its second consecutive gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.

Such was the performance of India in the final
India’s doubles team Desai and G Sathiyan won their first game 13-11 and second 11-7. The Indian pair won the third game 11-5 to take the lead.
On the other hand, experienced Achanta Sharath Kamal lost his match against Chew (7-11, 14-12, 3-11, 11-9).
However, Sathiyan won his next match against Koen Pang (12-10, 7-11, 11-7, 11-4) to take India 2-1.
Desai easily won the deciding game.

Indian men’s team performance in Commonwealth Games
Before winning this gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, India had won the 2018 men’s team event in table tennis.
At the same time, the Indian men’s team had failed to win a medal in the Commonwealth Games in 2014, while the team won a bronze medal in 2010.
In the 2006 Commonwealth Games, India won the gold medal by defeating Singapore. India won the bronze medal in the year 2002.
Semi-Finals and Quarter Finals
India beat Nigeria and Bangladesh in the semifinals and quarterfinals
India beat Nigeria 3-0 in the semi-finals.
In the semi-final, the pair of Harmeet and Sathiyan won their doubles match easily while Sharath Kamal defeated Aruna Qadri. In the next singles match, Sathiyan won a close match against Olajide Omotoyo.
Earlier in the quarter-finals, India defeated Bangladesh 3-0. Harmeet and Sathiyan won their doubles match. Kamal and Sathiyan won their respective singles.
India won all the matches in the group stage
India defeated Singapore to enter the quarter-finals. It was a 3–0 victory for the Indian men’s team. Earlier, the Indian men’s team had defeated Northern Ireland and Barbados 3-0 in the group stage.
