One of the most famous games, Battleground mobile India BGMI is all set to make a comeback in India. It was banned by the Indian government last year. The Indian government is revoking the ban for three months as a trial period. During this period, it will keep a close watch on the issues that might harm or addict the player. This is a chance given by the Indian government to the gaming app after it has complied with issues of server locations and data security.

Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar shared a tweet on Friday and informed that a 3-month trial approval has been given to BGMI. However, he also said that the final decision will be taken only after that. It has been more than a year that the government removed the app from the app store due to security concerns. Battleground Mobile India is owned by South Korean gaming company Krafton.

What was the reason for BGMI ban?

BGMI was banned in 2022 after an NGO PRAHAR claimed that the banned game PUBG has been re-introduced in India by Chinese conglomerate Tencent’s front company Krafton. However, Krafton said that BGMI had no link with Tencent. Krafton, Inc India CEO Sean Hyunil Sohn said that their approach has always been India-first.

How much it means for BGMI to come back to India?

At the time when BGMI was banned in India, it had around 100 million user base. This was a huge achievement, as it touched this figure in less than 2 years of its launch in India. Hence, returning to India will mean a lot to the company and its growth. Sohn said in a statement that the company is very grateful to the Indian authorities for allowing the game to resume in India. He also said that Battleground mobile India will be available for download on app store soon.

The CEO also highlighted their aim to collaborate with local developers in India. This will directly create more employment opportunities for young and talented people in India. He said that the collaboration will ensure the skill set of the developers who will collaborate with them. Krafton has previously made investments in few Indian gaming firms such as Nodwin Gaming.
