Union Minister of State for Education Subhash Sarkar informed about the vacant posts of faculty in IITs across the country.
According to the central government, more than 4,500 faculty positions are vacant in various courses taught at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), India’s best educational institute for engineering.
This information was given by the Union Minister of State for Education, Subhash Sarkar in a written reply to a question asked in the Rajya Sabha.
He has also given information that how many posts are vacant in which IIT, which we will give you information below.
IIT Kharagpur has maximum number of vacancies
Subhash, while answering a question asked by BJP MP CM Ramesh in Rajya Sabha, said that a total of 4,596 faculty posts are vacant in 23 IITs of the country.
He said that among all the IITs, the maximum number of faculty posts are vacant in IIT Kharagpur. A total of 798 posts of faculty are vacant in this IIT. The number of faculty vacancies in IIT Bombay is 517.
Education Ministry urges all IITs to recruit in mission mode
The government said in the Rajya Sabha that filling up of vacancies is a continuous process and IITs keep on issuing advertisements related to it.
He said that these recruitments are open throughout the year for those candidates who fulfill the required qualifications and experience for the posts of faculty in IITs.
He said that the education ministry has requested all the IITs to fill up the vacancies in faculty through a special recruitment drive in mission mode.
How many vacancies are there in other IITs?
Other IITs that have more than 300 vacancies are IIT Dhanbad (446), Roorkee (419), Kanpur (382) and Guwahati (307).
While all the old IITs on one hand have more than 300 vacancies, IIT Delhi has the lowest total of 52 vacancies.
On the other hand, if we talk about the new IITs established in the country, then there are least vacancies here. A total of 15 posts are vacant in Tirupati IIT and 27 posts are vacant in Palakkad IIT.
286 teachers recruited in 18 IITs since September 2021
Replying to a question by Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) MP AA Rahim, the central government said that since September 2021, 286 teachers have been recruited in 18 IITs.
The government informed that recruitment is on hold at IIT Bhubaneswar, Bhilai and Roorkee, while recruitment is being done on faculty positions at IIT Mandi, Patna and Tirupati campuses.
How many candidates got selected from which category?
The government said that 2,258 candidates from general category applied for the post of faculty in IITs, out of which 41 got selected, while 15,322 candidates from OBC category applied, out of which 126 got selected.
SC category 9,881 candidates applied out of which 78 got selected and ST category 2,043 candidates applied out of which 27 got selected.
