If you had planned to watch the Rose Parade on the New Year’s morning, you must be upset because you have to wait an extra day.
The annual parade normally begins on the morning of the first day of the calendar year, but this year, for the 20th time in its 134-year history, it does not take place on January 1st. This is because the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association, the organizer of the parade, has maintained a tradition of not holding a parade on Sunday. Following the parade, this year’s Rose Bowl game will also be held on January 2nd.

The Rose Parade begins Monday, January 2, 2023 at 11:00 AM EST in Pasadena, California. Floats and others in the parade descend 5.5 miles down Colorado Boulevard.

The parade is broadcast on more than one network. Viewers can watch Rose Parade on ABC, NBC, and Univision. It’s also streaming on Peacock.
Why isn’t the 2023 Rose Parade on January 1st?
The Tournament of Roses has a “Never on Sunday” tradition that started in 1893 when the first Rose Parade was scheduled to be held on a Sunday. Mercury News reported that the tradition was started to avoid scaring horses outside a local church and disrupting church services.
