Welcome to Wrexham is the story of two friends who scrape together money to buy a lucky football club in Wales.
Okay, my two friends are Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. So “scratching” is probably a stretch for two successful actors. But the rest is true! They actually bought a Welsh football team called Wrexham AFC that plays in the fifth division of English football. We watch season 1 “The real version of Ted Lasso ” From the preview and towards the end of the 18-episode first season, we wanted more.
Luckily, we’re getting exactly that. Not long after the season 1 finale aired, Reynolds and McElhenney announced that season 2 was confirmed and in the works. So read what to expect and when to expect, then hulu (or Disney Plus outside the US) Watch the full first season.

Although the second season was announced through Ryan Reynolds Twitter (opens in a new tab) A release date has yet to be set, one week after the first season ended on October 12, 2022.
In fact, we technically don’t even know what the second season will cover. The first season lasted until the end of the 2021-2022 season at the end of May 2022 when Reynolds and McElhenney bought the club in September 2020. This second season is expected to be a bit shorter, including only the 2022-2023 season. , ending in early June 2023 at the latest.
It’s only natural, then, to expect the show to begin in late August 2023. Since the first season debuted on August 24, 2022, there is already a precedent for adhering to that timeline.

The first season of Welcome to Wrexham begins when Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney collaborate to acquire Wrexham AFC, the third oldest football club in the world. Unfortunately, despite its prestigious history, Wrexham has been mismanaged into oblivion known as the British National League.
Between the encouragement of the documentary series Sunderland Til’ I Die and his Mythic Quest writer’s roommate Humphrey Ker, enter McElhenney, who discovers he wants to own a football club. McElhenney was incredibly successful because of his show It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, but he wasn’t successful or wealthy as a movie star. So he reached out to Reynolds, and after a maximum effort, the gang bought a football team.
The rest of the season focuses on what happens after Reynolds and McElhenney own the club. They have to bring in front office staff and coaches and repair the grounds, all of which require a lot of effort and money. Add a real stake to the venture, and the pair will actually lose money every season the club fails to promote to English Football League 2, the next step in the English football pyramid.
Eventually, Wrexham starts Cinderella Run. In just one season, Reynolds and McElhenny moved the team from 20th to 8th before the takeover. And in the 2021-2022 season, they advance to second place by winning the National League promotion playoffs. But ultimately they fall short. Wrexham falls to Grimsby Town in a brutal playoff loss and loses a silverware chance in the FA Trophy final against Bromley. Nevertheless, the club and the town of Wrexham itself were more hopeful than ever.

The good news is that we don’t know how Season 2 of Welcome to Wrexham will end at the time of this writing. In fact, we won’t know until the 2022-2023 season ends in late May/early June 2023.
Early indications, however, are that it’s going to be a season that’s mostly soaring highs, if not without drama. At the time of this writing, Wrexham AFC are in second place in the National League table, with Notts County just one point ahead of them in the standings. Wrexham need to top Notts County to avoid a promotion play-off and avoid a repeat of last year’s play-off loss.
Besides, the National League isn’t the only competition. The FA Cup and FA Trophy must also be contested. So far only Wrexham’s FA Cup run has started and the Dragons are currently in the second round of the competition.
