The Kerala Story is performing exceptionally well at the box office but director Sudipto Sen has an issue to address. He recently opened up about the Kerala story film screening in West Bengal. Said that the films distributors are getting calls and are being said not to screen the film. He said in a statement that the distributors in West Bengal want to show the film but are receiving calls being asked not to show it. He further said that he doesn’t know who these people are.

This comes after Supreme Court stayed the ban which was imposed by the West Bengal Government in the state. It prevented the controversial film to be screened in the theaters across the state. However, the court allowed the film to screen in the theaters of the state. The movie got released on 6 May, 2023 and the West Bengal government imposed a ban on the film on 8 May. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that the movie would create hatred and violence among the people. She said the ban is to avoid any such situations, so the state government has decided to ban it.

Court on ban of The Kerala Story in West Bengal

Meanwhile, the top court bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said that the movie had got certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFE) and that it is the state’s duty to maintain law and order if any such situation arises. Moreover, the bench ordered that the disclaimer shall be updated which must tell that there is no authentic data to back the claim of 32,000 or any other number of conversions. And also added that the disclaimer should include that the film represents a fictionalised version.

Story and Cast

The film that features Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Sonia Balani and Siddhi revolves around the story of Kerala women. Who are allegedly being brainwashed by young muslim friends and are being converted into Islam. Later they are made to join terrorist organisation ISIS. The movie received much backlash from particular communities and was also shadow banned. However, the film is unstoppable and is doing great amid so many drawbacks.
