Thalapathy Vijay’s Varisu will be released worldwide on the occasion of Sankranthi and Pongal 2023. The film is a bilingual action drama released in Tamil as Varisu and Telugu as Varasudu. The film opens with the biggest festival releases in Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Andhra Pardesh, competing against three of the biggest superstar films at the box office.
Starr Thalapathy Vijay will clash at the box office alongside Ajith Kumar’s Thunivu, Balakrishna’s Veera Simha Reddy and Chiranjeevi’s Waltair Veerayya. Ajith’s Thunivu is also being released in Telugu as Thegimpu. The deal breakers were huge. However, the creator of Thalapathy Vijay starrer has taken a new step with the release of the Telugu version. They announced that Varasudu was postponed and announced a new release date.
The Telugu version Varasudu will hit screens on January 14th while Varisu will be released on January 11th. This massive move by the manufacturer will benefit the Telugu release as it has a two-day margin to fill in good numbers at the box office. A new poster for the film has been shared and the film promises to be the perfect family entertainer.

Producer Dil Raju commented on the reason for the decision to postpone Barasudu, saying, “Varasudu competes with Chiranjeevi’s Waltair Veerayya and Balakrishna’s Veera Simha Reddy. I said many times that I am not the opponent. Barasudu is a complete family entertainer. Since they have done entertainment for Sankranti in the past, I wanted to release Barasudu with the same mind, but Balakrishna and Chiranjebi powder need a big release in Telugu. So, I decided positively to open it in the future.”
About varisu/Varasudu
Producer Thalapathy Vijay and family entertainers Varisu and Varasudu of Rashmika Mandanna released the trailer for the film on 4 January. If the trailer is a hint, Barisu is a complete masala entertainer. It has everything you need: action, drama, comedy, romance, music and more.
Directed by filmmaker Vamshi Paidipally, Varisu shares the story of a young man played by Thalapathy Vijay, the son of a business tycoon. Starring Rashmika Mandanna, the film’s stellar cast includes R Sarath Kumar, Prakash Raj, Jayasudha, Khushboo, Srikanth, Shaam, Yogi Babu and Sangeetha Krish in supporting roles.
Dil Raju calls ‘Vijay a big star’.
A few weeks ago, producer Dil Raju, who is producing Varisu, created a huge controversy when he claimed that Thalapthy Vijay was a bigger factor than Ajith Kumar in Tamil Nadu. Addressing the press, he argued that given Thalapathy Vijay’s popularity in the state, he could ask producer Udhayanidhi Stalin to allocate more screens to Varisu than to Thunivu.
Dil Raju received a lot of backlash from netizens for his remarks. But later, the finance man cleared the air. As reported by the Deccan Chronicle, he said his words were ‘misunderstood and this is just a small chunk from a lengthy interview’. He said, “I am a movie lover and have made 50 films so far. I mentioned Garu Vijay and Garu Aji only as issues in the theater version, but the essence was not caught and something else came out.”
