Even in exile, a king remains a king. After a four-year hiatus, Shah Rukh Khan returns to the big screen with Siddharth Anand director Pathaan and as expected, the film kicks off a record-breaking start at the worldwide box office. In India, the film emerged as a record-breaking opener with an estimate marking the start of Rs 57 core plus. While the Hindi version is heading towards an opening of over 55 crore, the Tamil and Telugu dubs put in an additional 2 crore per industry estimates.
Pathaan grossed Rs 67 crore on the all-India opening:
Pathaan’s total India total is around Rs 67.25 crore. The film scored astonishing scores across multiplex chains across the country, with PVR, Inox and Cinepolis contributing around 50% of the total collection on its opening day, raking in Rs 27.05 crore. Pathaan will see a much bigger jump in the collection on the second day due to the Republic Day holiday and we will see a century in the history of Bollywood cinema in just two days. Non-holiday Pathaan became the all-time #1 opening in Hindi, beating collections of holiday releases such as War, KGF 2 and Thugs of Hindostan.
Speaking of international belts, Pathaan has had an opening of over $4 million, with initial estimates indicating $4.4 million. Converting this to INR, Pathaan’s overseas figure is around Rs 35.75 crore, the highest ever for a Bollywood film. Outside of India, there is no bigger star in the history of Indian cinema than Shah Rukh Khan, and the Patan Collection reinstates this statement. Pathaan will be heading towards a historic opening weekend in the roughly $15 million range internationally, with lifetime figures aiming to snap an all-time high in the $30 million range.
Shah Rukh Khan Achieves Global Opening of Rs 100 crore:
Headed by Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and John Abraham, the film’s opening day worldwide gross was around Rs 103 crore, making it the first Bollywood film to break 100 years at the worldwide box office in one day. These numbers are beyond historical and not everyone will be able to account for this phenomenon with non-holiday releases. That’s still an estimate as we’ve seen Pathaan released worldwide on over 8000 screens. Actualities may deviate slightly from this range, but trends so far point to a global release of this Shah Rukh Khan film of over $100 million. And now we can officially say – the king is back, so is Bollywood!
