Exclusive: Aamir Khan said- I do not give up, shared interesting things about Laal Singh Chaddha

Aamir Khan’s film Lal Singh Chaddha is going to knock in theaters soon. Aamir calls this film his dream project. His character is shown in the film from the age of 18 to 47. The film has been shot in many different locations. Aamir describes the entire journey of this film as very challenging. Excerpts from a conversation with Urmila Kori.

Inspired by the Hollywood film Forrest Gump, what have changed for the Indian audience?
Our film is mostly inspired from the original, but we have also made some changes according to the Indian audience. There were some adult scenes in the Hollywood film, which we have not taken in our film, because we want people to go to see this film with the whole family.
How did you decide your look in the film?
Every gym I go to, a Sardarji used to come there too, I really liked his look. I talked to him that I am going to be a Sardar in my next film, can I copy his look? They happily agreed. I took a picture of him and kept it for reference.
Have you grown a real beard for the film?
Yes, I have grown my beard up to six inches. It took six months. I used extensions under my real beard. Although I could have grown more beard, but during this process I felt that I am not perfect for this film. It took us a long time to get the rights of the film. When the rights were hardly available, I started growing a beard. Grown a beard for six months. We had another six months. Meanwhile, what happened is my son Junaid, he went to study theatre, he is fond of theatre. from the American Dramatic Committee of the Arts. He did a course there for two years and he returned. At that time preparations were going on for our Lal Singh Chaddha. I told Advaita that this is a very difficult film. You have made Secret Superstar, but it is a very complex film, so you test shoot it. I am giving you six to seven such scenes. I have to see if you can do justice to this subject. Junaid had also come at that time. I told Advait that you take Junaid in the role of Lal. Both things will happen. What the son has come to learn, that too will happen and your test will also be done. The shoot took place two weeks later. When we saw the shots, we were stunned. Advaita’s work was good. Junaid was very good. I saw Junaid performing on screen for the first time. He had become a complete character. I did not understand how I would do Lal now, because Junaid was Lal for me. I talked to my friends. Show everyone all those footage. 98 percent of the people said that Junaid should do this role. Only two people said that it should not be done, one was Aditya Chopra and one was Atul Kulkarni. He said that no newcomer should do this film. There is a need for a star who can carry the story on their shoulders, so Tom Hanks was cast in Hollywood too. Apart from this, what is the duration of the film. Junaid was not even born in it. The film is set in the 70s. After that I got clarity that I should do this film, but in this entire incident I had shaved my beard because I started feeling that Junaid would do it. When it was decided that I had to grow a beard again. I would like to say that I took inspiration from Junaid’s scenes. What has he pitched? I got to see this.
What are some things you would like to keep with you about the character of Lal Singh?
I wish that some of the qualities of Lal Singh remain with me. Very innocent character. There is no fault in his heart. Even if someone does something bad against him, he does not want his bad. An amazing feature of his character is that he knows how to leave his past behind. which we cannot do.
Are you doing a film with Kareena again?
I have always found Kareena to be a very amazing actress, I saw her work for the first time in the film Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. I really liked his character Poo. He is also a wonderful person. She beats me a lot too. He hasn’t seen the movie yet. I told her to watch the film, she says that she will watch the film only at the time of its release, but the amazing thing is that without seeing it, she gives me the opinion that this scene should be like this. That scene is like this. Don’t forget to put that scene.
Have you even auditioned Kareena for this film?
Yes, that was necessary. The director gets this opportunity from the look test to know how much you are looking for that role or not. I also audition. Kiran is making a film called Missing Ladies. The trailer of this film is coming with Lal Singh. I had given a look test for that film, but Kiran ji did not take me in Missing Ladies. I was shooting for Lal Singh Chaddha in those days. The shooting of Missing Ladies was also started. I didn’t even have time. Together we decided that if no one is found, I will be there as a backup.
How do you handle rejection in life?
Like every common man, rejection makes me sad. I remember that I was rejected in the audition for Hindi play in Inter College. I was sad. I again saw on the notice board that the audition for the Gujarati play is going on. It was written on the notice that people of 30 to 40 choruses are needed, apart from the main actor. I thought at least I would get a chance in the chorus. I don’t give up. When one door closes, another must be opened. This is my approach regarding work.
Have you met Hollywood star Tom Hanks and what do you have to say about the often comparisons between the two of you?
I have met Tom Hanks, but we haven’t talked much. As far as comparisons are concerned, yes for a long time people said that Tom Hanks and I look alike. Although this is the first time that both of us have done a film on the same story. When people started talking to me like this, I started watching Tom closely. I don’t think he looks like me, acting is like me. They look different to me. I agree that people think so. I think people like our energy.
In the last two years, the maths of the box office has changed completely, is these things giving pressure?
We want more people to see the film. There have been many changes after Kovid. We have worked hard and made the film. There is concern, but many films have also played. Gangubai, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, The Kashmir Files has gone. I heard that Pushpa had taken an opening of 1.5 crores, then did business above 100 crores. The film has played with word of mouth. When the audience likes the film, it will run. Only South movies are being liked. It is also not there, otherwise Gangubai Kathiawadi and Kashmir Files would not have worked.
The audience is still going to the theater less than before, what do you think is the reason for this?
I think films have started coming soon on OTT due to Kovid. People think that if I stop for a while, I will see at home. This will not happen with my films. Lal Singh Chaddha will not come on OTT for six months. We want people to watch in the cinema. A film has been made for cinema.
Is your film’s clash with Akshay Kumar’s Rakshabandhan?
Yes, we are coming on the same day. I liked the trailer of Rakshabandhan. I also talked to the director. It is a sentimental story of brother and sister. Both are family films. Hope both the film audience will like it. Very often our films come together. If the film is good, then both will work. Sunny Deol and my films have come many times. Together and have gone.
