Dangal Loses to Pathaan as Top Grossing Hindi Film, Earning ₹729 crore Globally

Shah Rukh Khan beat Aamir Khan in an important blockbuster race. His Pathaan overtook Aamir’s Dangal as the highest-grossing film of all time released in Hindi. It raised $729 million worldwide.

That said, Dangal’s entire worldwide collection is still ahead at $200 billion, as it roared like crazy at the Chinese box office in 2017. In China, it raised about 120 billion rupees.

Film trade analyst Ramesh Bala tweeted the new figures, as did producer Yash Raj Films. Worldwide, Pathaan, a new poster featuring the latest collection, has raised $88.92 million (approximately $730 million). A total of 45.3 billion rupees were raised in India and 27.6 billion rupees abroad.

Ramesh Bala tweeted: Crossing #Dangal to All-time No.1 Straight Hindi movie in India.”

Analyst Taran Adarsh also tweeted the trend for larger theater chains on the second Saturday. “#Pathaan of national chain stores… Week 2: Saturday… cr [Gold: 6.31 cr] 70.36% growth in national chains.” He later updated the figure to $11.01 crore.

Pathaan is a spy who follows Shah Rukh’s nominal Indian intelligence agent as he resurfaces to thwart a terrorist attack planned by Outfit X, a mercenary group led by Jim (John), in the Indian capital. The film also features Dimple Kapadia and Ashutosh Rana in pivotal roles.

Pathaan is Shah Rukh’s first big-screen film in four years. It is the fourth film in producer Aditya Chopra’s spy universe, following Salman Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger and War starring Tiger Zinda Hai and Hrithik Roshan. Salman made a special appearance as Tiger in Pathaan.
