Irdai: Now it is easy to get cashless treatment, Irda gives freedom to empanel hospitals

The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India has allowed general insurance companies to choose network providers or hospitals as per their standards. IRDA has taken this decision with the aim of relaxing the norms for ‘cashless’ facility. Giving this information on Wednesday, the regulator said that the ‘Guidelines on Standardization in Health Insurance’ have been revised to give effect to the new norms.

The scope of ‘cashless’ facility will increase in the country

The regulator said in a letter issued to insurance companies and third party administrators (TPAs), insurers now have the right to empanel network providers who are compliant with their standards and norms. This step has been taken with the aim of expanding the scope of ‘cashless’ facility in the country. Earlier, only network providers registered with the Registry of Hospitals (Rohini) of the Insurance Network managed by the Insurance Information Bureau (IIB) could be empaneled by the insurers.

Now cashless claim can be done easily

IRDA has said in its circular that insurance companies should consider the infrastructure before empanelment of any hospital. Also, the revised hospital norms by the board should be published on the official website. On this decision, the MD of Universal Sompo General Insurance said that IRDA by its decision has provided cashless facilities to the insurers. Along with this, the scope of cashless claims in hospitals will increase. He said that this decision will reduce the financial burden on the insurers.
